About Us—The Citizens' Hope for America initiative is about citizens restoring control of what their youth are being taught in the behavioral studies. This Hope for America book was encouraged by the office of Judge Robert H. Bork.

Many are doing their best to restore education, but truly effective measures cannot be instituted. The problem that must be corrected goes much deeper. It is the system itself. The problem is that taxpayers and elected school boards no longer have control over the behavioral ideas taught to our youth. The reason is that union-funded liberals get elected as legislators, and these loyalists continue to uphold collective bargaining laws that remove the people and their elected school board from control.

The law enables the state's Education Association's local union representative and its leftist secular political National Education Association (NEA) to be "... the exclusive and bargaining representative ... to negotiate teacher contracts." They demand that teachers have tenure guarantees that can cost local schools tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars and can take years to remove one bad teacher. On June 10, 2014, a courageous California Superior Court Judge, Rolf M. Treu, dared to expose secular authoritarianism when he wrote, "Statutes protecting teacher tenure are hurting students' chances to succeed." It is a degenerative secular education problem. What could be more threatening to America's future? Preventing parent taxpayers' control over soft science instruction in their schools is dragging America down, down, down.

The "A Nation At Risk" study, published in 1983, is by far the most significant non-partisan study of public education to date. Denigrated by atheistic secular types, the report concluded: "The educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide ... that threatens our very future as a Nation and a people. We might well have viewed it as an act of war against America." The report concluded with this famous dictum by Thomas Jefferson:

I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion.

For Iowa taxpayers, we recommend that gifting of $100 or more to the Endowment to Restore Ageless Educational Principles, which is detailed later in this article. That enables Iowa contributors to achieve a 25% state tax credit in addition to a 501(c)(3) public service federal tax reduction. Corporation gifting is very helpful. For some donors it may be a deductible promotion expense.

What follows is for those who have not read the Hope for America handbook—
The challenge is to restore citizen knowledge needed to restore public school curriculum in the behavioral studies that produced the greatest nation in the history of mankind. We The People have the responsibility and authority over school curriculum taught to our youth (the American Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of [citizen] Rights). These American charters reversed centuries of human deprivation at the hands of pretender-gods, kings, presidents, academians, politicos, clergy, whomever.

Liberty cannot be forced. Citizen self-reliance depends upon education that teaches the values which sustain the family, work ethic and morality. Today's students will soon be leaders in America. This is reflected by the concern for future generations emphasized by the Constitution: "In Order to ... establish Justice, insure domestic tranquility ... and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

The majority of our public school teachers are good people. They are wrongly blamed for what is happening in public schools. Within fifteen years after a liberal majority on the Supreme Court twisted the First Amendment (Everson v. Board of Education in 1947), radicals were rioting with impunity on our campuses. Some of their converts, now teachers with union tenure guarantees, rudely enforce a God-rejecting religious and political atmosphere on our public school campuses.

Judge Robert H. Bork observed that the courts, especially the Supreme Court, have become "the enemy of traditional culture, in areas including speech, religion, abortion, sexuality, welfare, public education, journalism and much else." He continued, "It is not too much to say that the suffocating vulgarity of popular culture is in large measure the work of the Court" (Jeffrey Rosen, "Obstruction of Judges," New York Times, August 11, 2002). President Ronald Reagan was concerned about the twisting of First Amendment law that undermined citizens' authority, the elected school board members' authority and administrators employed to control what is taught to American youth. He nominated Judge Robert H. Bork to serve on the Supreme Court, but a liberal majority on the Senate Judiciary Committee rejected the nomination.

A person's deeply held religious belief cannot be separated from his/her attitude about education and government. Karl Marx promoted his secular agenda by assaulting "the family and education." "The bourgeois clap-trap about the family and the hallowed correlation of parent and child is disgusting" (Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, Manifesto of the Communist Party, 1848).

Rabbi Soul Roth, professor at New York's Yeshiva University, explains the tragic mental disconnect that occurs when creation's God, even Christmas, is forced out of the school building. He calls it "functional segregation." Students are victims of mentally crippling education that denigrates belief in creation's God. Secular teachers and Darwin's theory for the origin of life take credit for the complex marvels, function and beauty that only our Almighty God could have created. Furthermore, quoting Rabbi Soul Roth, "science becomes knowledge, apart from moral values." Consequently, "Morality has been steadily eroding in America." Morals are not just good ideas, they are founded in a perfect understanding of man's nature. The truth about man's nature is known only to the God of creation. God's wisdom is far superior, I Corinthians 1:25. Functional segregation in classrooms is harmful to religious faith, "hence making the family and community irrelevant."

It is the teaching of impartial God-honoring foundations, so highly treasured by immigrants from throughout the world, which causes the leftist negative frenzy. Secular elites must control what is taught as history in order to change what students believe. Their success is reflected in the sordid and alarming impact upon students, even some parents (Vital Cultural Indicators later in this article).

Forbes magazine published well-documented reports by teachers and former union leadership in "How the National Education Association Corrupts Our Public Schools" (Peter Brimelow and Leslie Spencer, Forbes magazine, June 7, 1993). Also, U.S. News and World Report, December 9,1991 states, "Many parents view the public schools as ineffective and dangerous, and are exploring the other options before it is too late."

Harry S. Truman, President of the United States 1945-1953, emphasized the ageless principles for education and law: "The fundamental basis for this nation's law was given to Moses on Mount Sinai. The basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings in Exodus, Matthew, Isaiah, and Paul. If we don't have a proper fundamental moral background, we finally end up with a totalitarian government" (Universal Principles in Divine Law for Government Do Exist. President Truman's address, Attorney General's Conference on Law Enforcement Problems, February 1950).

The official American motto, In God We Trust, was adopted in 1956. It replaced the E Pluribus Unum motto, adopted when the Great Seal of the United States was created in 1782. With that motto, the American Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787 by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. The Constitution was ratified and went into effect on March 4, 1789.

Ernest Renan, a Pantheist, warned his agnostic friends, "Let us enjoy the liberty of the sons of God, but let us take care lest we become accomplices in the diminution of virtue which would menace society if Christianity were to grow weak. What should we do without it? If Rationalism wishes to govern the world without regard to the religious needs of the soul, the experience of the French Revolution is there to teach us the consequences of such a blunder" (Ernest Renan's appeal to his agnostic friends; David A. Norris, Restoring Education Central to American Greatness, iUniverse, Bloomington, Indiana, 2011, p. 120).

In God We Trust is a reflection of the Creator-based American Declaration of Independence. Abraham Lincoln emphasized the Declaration as the moral predicate for Constitutional law. One of the greatest messages ever delivered in America, the Gettysburg Address, begins, "Fourscore and seven years ago [referring to the Declaration of Independence] our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal" (Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, November 19, 1863).

"For the first [now over 340 years] of this country's history, religion and education were intimate and interdependent. Religious competition does stir controversy, but religious freedom enriches rather than impoverishes public policy and the education process" (Edward Scott Gaustad, A Religious History of America, Harper and Row, 1966, p. 372. Gaustad was a Professor of History at the University of California, Riverside).

At the 1982 National Day of Prayer event, President Reagan said, "I also believe this blessed land was set apart in a very special way, a country created by men and women who came here not in search of gold, but in search of God. They would be free people, living under law with faith in their Maker and their future." Talking about the power of the laws of creation's God that deal with right and wrong, the President said, "The source of our knowledge has been expelled from the classroom."

The Hope for America message is a proven strategy. In 1775, 1776 and 1778, citizen communication committees were victorious over tremendous odds. The King of England even had troops on our shores, and his loyalists were part of our population.

This is a joint citizen venture that can be achieved in no other way. The key is the leadership by all of us, reaching our associates, neighbors, friends, leaders, etc. As the people become informed, they will restore their authority and see to it that their youth are taught about American history, traditional family values, personal morality and community civility.

"The [leftist secular] National Education Association rise is directly linked with the [now 50] year decline of American education that occurred simultaneously—not just in terms of quality, but ... increased cost" ("How the National Education Association Corrupts Our Public Schools," Forbes magazine, June 7, 1993, p. 79).
